Saturday, February 10, 2007 @ noon - Sudan Savagery - Speaker: Rev. Dr. Herbert Daughtry – Dar-fur Update, Guest: Dar-furan Speakers - Personal Experiences Reports, Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Fred Shuttlesworth, Veteran Civil Rights Leader, Special Assistant to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

A Celebration and Tribute to Our Hero – Frederick Douglass - Join the DBNA along with the Office of the Brooklyn Borough President, Polytechnic University, The House of the Lord Church and the Forest City Ratner Companies (FCRC) in a three (3) day celebration of the life and contribution of Frederick Douglass, and the fact that Brooklyn, New York, in particular, served as a gateway to liberation for freedom seekers, otherwise referred to as escaped slaves.

Sunday, February 11, 2007 – 5:00 p.m. at the House of the Lord Church, Frederick Douglass IV and his wife BJ will perform artistic skits of the life of his great-grandfather Frederick Douglass and his quest for the abolishment of slavery.

Monday, February 12, 2007 – 9:00 a.m. – Frederick and his wife will address the general assembly of two schools in Brooklyn named in honor of his great-grandfather (In Bed/Stuy and Brownsville).

Monday, February 12, 2007 noon – Luncheon will hosted by Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, New York - The former site of the African Wesleyan Methodist Episcopal Church (1854-1938) and the first Black congregation. (Now Bridge Street Church)

Monday, February 12, 2007 – 7:00 p.m. – A major program hosted by Mother AME Zion Church in Harlem, Rev. Dr. Gregory Smith, Pastor.

Tuesday, February 13, 2007 – 9:00 a.m. – Brief ceremonies starting at the Plymouth Church of the Pilgrims in Brooklyn, the African Burial Ground and the Manhattan pier to call attention to a marker placed by the NYC Landmarks Commission at the suggestion of Rev. Dr. Herbert Daughtry. We’ll view the marker of Mother AME Zion, the safe house of David Ruggles, and then a special reception at City hall hosted by Council Member Charles Barron and Alan Gerson.

Each day will begin with prayer and continental breakfast at the House of the Lord church located at 415 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, Rev. Dr. Herbert Daughtry, Pastor. One of the sponsors of the Freedom Struggles Weekend is the Center for the Study of History, Cultural and Social Movement. The center is a component of the Downtown Brooklyn Neighborhood Alliance. The DBNA is a member organization which signed a Community Benefits Agreement with Forest City Ratner related to the Atlantic Yards Project.
